City Slicker [James Young]

City Slicker
Written by James Young & Steven A. Jones
Lead Vocals by James Young

Everybody's talking 'bout movin' to the country
Leave that dirty city life behind
Everybody's crazy if they think that the country's
Gonna give me any peace of mind
Backstreet, heartbeat, asphalt & concrete
Give me all the things that I know & love
Skyline looks fine stimulation for my mind
Every single livin' city minute's a show

I'm just a City Slicker
Do you get the picture?
I'm a City Slicker
I'm a Nitroglycerine Mixture

Everybody's talking 'bout moving to the city
Leave that lazy country life behind
Everybody's walking out sure seems funny
Tryin' to get that urban state of mind
I'm high strung low slung priority one is make a ton of money go buy myself a brand new car
Big sound's midtown time to put the pedal down
Better get ready cause I'm supercharged

And just a City Slicker
Do you get the picture?
I'm a City Slicker
I'm a Nitroglycerine Mixture

Food...when you want it
Fun...when you need
Love...when you can't live without it
Everything, Anything

I'm a City Slicker
I'm a Permanent Fixture

Interpretation

Some people want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, to relax away from it all, but for me, I wouldn't want it any other way.  The suburbs may be growing, and as they grow, people are moving to the country, but there's just something about the city that keeps me here.

JY: "The idea of the song is that boredom is death -- and, for me, going outside of the city means I'll usually wind up bored. I'm a neurotic person -- I have to have a lot of things going on at once. Everything is available in the city if you want it; actually, there's probably too much available! Musically, this song is meant to establish myself apart from Styx. It's ass-kicking rock & roll."
