Runnin' Out Of Time

Help me, won't you help me deal with the madness they're puttin' me through
Help me, help me deal with the minds of the people I just can't relate to
I guess you might say I've seen the light cause I don't care what they think
I've got a brand new lease on life won't you help me find a better place to go. We're

Runnin' out of time
You and me
Such a narrow mind
Can't they see
Leave it all behind
Come with me
We're runnin' out of time

Tell me, won't you tell me what is the reason they do this to me
Give me, won't you please give me a clue that can help me see
What's goin' on in their little minds and what makes them say those dumb things
You know they scare me most every time so come on let's get the hell out of here we're

Runnin' out of time...

Save me, save me
Take me to the promised land
Save me, save me, save me

Interpretation

There are people around me who just drive me crazy with the things they say and do. I think I've moved beyond their simple way of seeing things.  I don't understand why they say these things, and I can't take it any more.

(This may be a reference to people who deny climate change and the energy crisis, which JY was talking about back in the early 80s. )

The reference to the "promised land" is an expression drawn from the Biblical story of the Exodus, where the Israelites were promised the land of Canaan, a "land of milk and honey" when they left slavery in Egypt. It generally represents anywhere that a person dreams of going where things are better.

JY: "I subscribe to this publication called Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist. It talks about the time clock that's running out because of the nuclear buildup around the world. That's what initially inspired the song. But it's also about a relationship."
