I'll Get Lucky [Dennis DeYoung]

I'll Get Lucky
Written by Dennis DeYoung

Everyday I get up
I work my fingers to the bone
My boss and my job
They got me livin' in the Twilight Zone
But I know, yes I know

I'm just an average guy
Lost inside the Promised Land
The all-American boy
Still living off my dreams and plans
And my hopes, yes I know

Tell me I'm old-fashioned
I don't mind
The Grand Illusion keeps me goin'
Say I'm just a dreamer
That's alright
Stick around and I'll show ya

I'll get luck
I'll feel good
I'll get the wind at my back
And sail right into Hollywood

I'll get lucky
The American Dream
I'll be on my way
Cruisin' down on Easy Street
Way back on Easy Street

Tell me I'm crazy
I don't mind
I believe it
Lady Luck is waiting
Just for me
I can feel it

I'll get lucky
Ooh, I'll feel good
I'll get the wind at my back
Sail right into Hollywood

I'll get lucky
The American Dream
I'll be on my way
Cruisin' down on Easy Street
Way back on Easy Street

Interpretation

We all have dreams and want to get lucky, fantasizing while working what may seem like a dead end job. For Dennis, years of hard work as a musician allowed him to reach his dream.
