Warning Shot [Dennis DeYoung]

Warning Shot
Written by Dennis DeYoung
Lead Vocals by Dennis DeYoung

Nobody knows your name
Nobody sees you there
And when you try your best
Nobody seems to care
You're afraid you don't fit in
You've stopped strying 'cause you never win
You really need to tell someone
Before you turn and run

Not one more sleepless night
Not one more word to say
No arguments this time
You're gonna leave today

Distant roads, a stranger's face
I know you're searching for a better place
Somewhere a second chance
Is called you
One thing before you go

Sound a warning shot
Don't just run away
Sound a warning shot
Love will find the way

Ooh you're lonely
You're so confused
You start believing that it's just no use
Somewhere a second chance is calling you
One thing before you go

Sound a warning shot
Don't just run away
Sound a warning shot
Love will find the way

Interpretation

In the liner notes to Dennis DeYoung: The Ultimate Collection, Dennis says, "This is about missed communication between parents and children or between generations. There was a lot of news then about teenage drug use, anger, suicide - there still is - but this is what this song is about - separation and differences and understanding."
