Well, my jaw dropped open
When the girl walked by,
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pretty as a picture,
You can imagine my surprise,
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

When she walked in and looked my way
And said the things she had to say
In a little voice that came from outer space,
Cause when Kathy spoke,
A smile came to my face.

She was a natural beauty,
A schoolboy's dream,
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Curved like a statue,
Like a picture in a magazine,
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

There were times my eyes were on the ground
Cause I felt somehow I'd been let down
And I couldn't see, but then I'd hear that sound,
And when Kathy spoke,
She turned my head around.

Some say it was the booze.
Some say it was the drugs.
Some say it was a pimp to blame,
Some say it was punks.

I say sometimes the devil
Cannot be stopped,
And although the girl was beautiful,
The end was not.

Ain't no doubt about it,
She had the look in her eye,
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And when they talk about it
Makes me want to cry
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Although that voice is silent now
I refuse to let it get me down
Cause in my heart she carved herself a place.
Cause when Kathy spoke
A smile came to my face.
And when Kathy spoke
A smile came to my face.

When Kathy spoke
When Kathy spoke
Oh, yeah
When Kathy spoke

Interpretation

When Kathy spoke, I couldn't help but smile. She was attractive and available, but it was a mistake. Still, there's a part of me that remembers her fondly.
