Soul's Road [Lawrence Gowan]

Soul's Road

Your compass in hand
Your map to the stars
And no one beside you to say where you're going
Or even how far
You try to decide as you state into space
Then you start spinning your wheels
Waiting for something
To call to your wandering heels
That's how it feels...

Some roads will get you to heaven
Some roads will wear down your shoes
Some roads you know will be hell-bound
But there's a road that'll get you through
Love is the soul's road calling you
So where is that road?

We're two of a kind
We're stumbling blind
Searching so hard that sometimes it can feel like
We're losing our minds
How many times have we passed in the night
Not knowing the other was there
When maybe together we'd finally
Be getting somewhere... somewhere...

Some roads will get you to heaven
Some roads will wear down your shoes
Some roads you know will be hell-bound
But there's a road that'll get you through
Love is the soul's road calling you
So where is that road?

Racing around in a million directions
It's hard to know which way to turn
Suddenly there she is just up ahead
When love stands there calling
You go on and follow that road
Follow that road

Some roads will get you to heaven
Some roads will wear down your shoes
Some roads you know will be hell-bound
But there's a road that'll get you through
Love is the soul's road calling you
So where is that road?

Interpretation

Searching for love, seeking out your soulmate, is like traveling on a road. You have a compass in hand and a map of the stars to guide you, but in times of indecision, it's like spinning your wheels, waiting for someone to find you. You both may be stumbling blind, search for each other, not knowing when or where you will find each other, and you might just pass each other by many times, in the process. As you race around, unsure of your next move, suddenly you see her, and you know which road to take.
