Liar's Club [Glen Burtnik]
The Liars Club
Words and Music by Glen Burtnik
Lead Vocals by Glen Burtnik
Meet me tonight at the liars club
A room full of kindness, more than enough
Everyone's happy, everyone's loved
Meet me tonight at the liars club
There's a place I know
Where they treat you like Elvis
Where you're free to do whatever the hell you wanna do
You can speak your mind
Or just listen to the wisdom
I know it's hard to believe
And to good to be true
There's a girl at the door
The evening hostess
She's like an open book with nothing to hide
She's got a therapist, a hypnotist
And a cosmetic surgeon
She says when they're finished
She'll be satisfied
She'll be there to tonight at the liars club
Where words are friendly, it never gets rough
Nobody ages, everybody stays young
Meet me tonight at the liars club
In the back corner away from the window
A deal's on the table hard to refuse
This could be the big one, the chance of a lifetime
Go ahead and sign the line, you got nothing to lose
Meet me tonight at the liars club
The house of good fortune, the house of good luck
Where everyone's a winner, it's all in good fun
Meet me tonight at the liars club
And the women are beautiful
With hearts of pure gold
Their bodies are perfect
And the men are made of steel
The fixtures are shiny, groomed & manicured
And everybody comes to say exactly how they feel
So why don't you join me
For just one drink?
We'll sit by the fireplace, take a look 'round
We wont stay out late
It's not what you think
I promise I wont make a move
I'm over you by now
Meet me tonight at the liars club
A room full of kindness, more than enough
Everyone's faithful, everyone's loved
Meet me tonight at the liars club
Interpretation
There was a memoir by American author Mary Karr, released in 1995, called The Liar's Club, around the time that the Palookaville songs were being written and recorded. The title refers to her father and his friends who would gather together to drink and tell stories after work. That may have been the inspiration for this song about how people can meet in a bar, tell tall tales, and forget about life for awhile.
