A little more here, a little less there.
Slowly creating a world out of air
And surely frustrating the hell out of her;
My crowning achievement

She dug in heels & put up her fists
Cursing the punchlines I had bound to her wrists
But there was that feeling she couldn't resist:
My crowning achievement

So go on, go ahead, bang the walls, shake the bed,
Tell me what you're afraid for
Yeah, go on, go ahead, smash the mirror, wake the dead
Isn't that what you came for?

I felt the applause just knowing that I
Had conquered the mountain, watched the sunrise
And self satisfied I lay claim to my prize:
My crowning achievement

So go on, go ahead, bang the walls, shake the bed,
Tell me what you're afraid for
Yeah, go on, go ahead, smash the mirror, wake the dead isn't that what you came for?

And when I awoke she stood over me.
The look on her face I could hardly believe
Placing a halo of thorns on my brow;
My crowning achievement

So go on, go ahead, punch the walls, shake the bed.
Tell me what you're afraid for
Yeah, go on, go ahead, smash the mirror, raise the dead
Isn't that what you came for?

Bang the walls, shake the bed,
Tell me what you're afraid for
Go on, go ahead, smash the mirror, wake the dead; isn't that what you came for?

Interpretation

Carefully crafted, like the work of a gifted artist, I built my insurmountable case. She would find no way to win this time. She put up quite a fight, but I knew I had won this time. I was on top of the world, having finally finished my crowning achievement. When I awoke she was standing over me, and I could see in her face that it was only a dream. Like Jesus Christ wearing a crown of thorns, I put on my halo and made the ultimate sacrifice: "I am so sorry! You were right!".  That was my true crowning achievement.
