Vegas [The Falling Wallendas featuring Todd Sucherman]

Vegas

Carla's boss drove her out of town
When someone told his wife they were sleeping around
With her severance pay she got a french manicure
An Amtrack ticket and an artifical fur

Rode the Empire Builder out west one day
Shacked up with an Asian croupier
Who wore an opal ring, Tony Lama boots
A three gallon hat and his birthday suit

In Vegas
Las Vegas

She read that in India
They burn their pretty brides
And in other countries
They shoot them for their hides

But not in Vegas

You dreamt Wayne Newton'd leave you tix to his show
Sinatra'd pick you up in his stretch limo
Every morning a rose on your pillow
And an envelope to help you pay off your Fiero

Your family thinks you're an au pair
Your friends think you're kept by some billionaire
But on top of you a rancher spews
Red Man into a cup and it splashes on you
In Vegas

Interpretation

She left town when her boss told his wife about their affair. She took a train out west to Las Vegas dreaming of free tickets to see Wayne Newton and a personal invitation to meet Frank Sinatra. Instead she moved in with a guy who runs one of the gaming tables (a croupier). At least it's not like other countries where life as a bride can be dangerous for some. She has her family fooled into thinking she she has a job as an au pair (unpaid live-in nanny) and her friends convinced she's doing well working for a rich man. Instead she deals with local rangers who's tobacco spit splashes on her while working in a casino as a server.
