Lucky Man [Shaw/Blades featuring Tommy Shaw]

Lucky Man
Written by Greg Lake
Lead Vocals by Jack Blades

He had white horses
And ladies by the score
All dressed in satin
And waiting by the door
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
White lace and feathers
They made up his bed
A gold covered mattress
On which he was laid
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
He went to fight wars
For his country and his king
Of his honor and his glory
The people would sing
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
A bullet had found him
His blood ran as he cried
No money could save him
So he laid down and he died
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
Ooh, what a lucky man he was
Interpretation

Greg Lake started writing this song at age 12.  He later commented, "It's a kids' song, really. And it was a medieval fantasy, really."

Many would consider a man lucky to own white horses (often reserved for royalty), surrounded by ladies dressed in satin, with a bed made of white lace and feathers.  A hero of wars fought for king and country make him famous.  Ironically, this lucky man dies of a single bullet, and all his fame and fortune could not save him.
